What do you offer?

Alternative, accessible & inclusive makeup artist, helping you to wear makeup in a way that makes you, feel your best you!

Why do you want to work with the LGBTQ+ community?

Everybody deserves to have their makeup done, in a way that allows them to experience pure joy. LGBTQIA+ individuals wants & needs are often diminished in the wedding industry, but not in my chair.

Allyship

  • Gender Neutral language implemented across the business, referring to couples as “nearly weds” until preferred titles/roles are confirmed

  • Pronouns requested on all forms, not a requirement for those who don’t feel comfortable providing these. Own pronouns displayed on socials & used when introducing myself

  • Assist in the organising of Leeds Queer Alternatives group in Leeds Pride. Plus, the salon I run opens its doors prior to pride to offer a safe meeting spot for people who don’t feel safe attending pride on their own, to make friends & have a quieter & calmer meeting point; before moving up to Pride.

  • Running free to attend gender affirming makeup lessons/sessions in co-operation with TransLeeds

  • Regularly attend protests & vigils for Trans lives, also organising the salon to be a safe meeting space & spreading information on safe protesting.

  • Advertising inclusive business practises, and working to educate other business owners in things they can implement to make their business more inclusive (eg, displaying pronouns, asking pronouns & roles within wedding without assuming, rejecting “who’s the bride & who’s the groom” attitude) - co-running an inclusive & accessible wedding fair which vets suppliers to ensure they are LGBTQ+ friendly, and sending out info packs on tips to be LGBTQIA+ friendly

  • Using my privilege as a CIS Het White female to call out bigots & terfs, offer protection/a platform where needed for those who need it, and to offer encouragement & support those within the LGBTQ+ community.

How I ensure LGBTQ+ people feel included within my work;

  • Showing that I do show up, actively posting about protests, vigils & my involvement (when safe to do so) within them

  • Displaying pronouns, and requesting pronouns when meeting new potential clients/friends

  • Displaying trans & pride flags within the salon, and on my profile.

  • Showcasing lgbtq+ couples on my website & social media.

  • Attending LGBTQ+ events in my area, and showing support for LGBTQ+ artists publicly & within the salon

  • Working alongside Trans Leeds to host makeup events where possible.

  • Sharing fundraisers for gender affirming surgery, and petitions for better funded & accessible gender health care on the NHS.
