The Journey to Providing Inclusive Events
Inspired by personal experiences and a deep-rooted belief in equality, Ella Bella's founder, Jodie, has made it her mission to create a wedding industry that is welcoming and inclusive of all. By consciously choosing LGBTQ+-run and inclusive suppliers and ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all clients, Ella Bella has become a trusted ally for community members looking to marry.
Jodie herself is a bisexual woman in a hetero marriage so she understands the need for representation in the wedding industry and beyond.
Ella Bella Wedding and Event’s LGBTQ+ Wedding Initiatives and Policies
The Ella Bella team has implemented several initiatives to support LGBTQ+ clients in feeling safe and valued:
Exclusive Use of LGBTQ+ Suppliers: The business only works with suppliers who are LGBTQ+ owned or allies, ensuring that clients feel comfortable and supported throughout the planning process.
Inclusive Language and Imagery: Ella Bella uses inclusive language in all marketing materials and incorporates diverse subjects in their imagery to promote representation.
Continuous Learning and Advocacy: The business stays informed about LGBTQ+ issues and actively participates in advocacy efforts to promote inclusivity in the wedding industry.
Challenges and Overcoming Obstacles
Being an LGBTQ+ business can be risky. Thankfully, Jodie and the Ella Bella team have faced minimal challenges in promoting inclusivity. Regrettably, one thing they have faced is negative social media comments when their content gets sent to the wrong algorithm. They haven’t let that stop them though, the team moderates harmful content and doubles-down on their mission to send out messages of love and support.
Jodie’s Most Memorable LGBTQ+ Wedding Experience
One of Jodie's most memorable experiences was working with a couple who were terrified to approach wedding suppliers due to their fear of judgment. The couple felt immense relief and gratitude when they discovered Ella Bella and learned about the company’s commitment to inclusivity.
Jodie and the team have fostered a strong network of inclusive suppliers and businesses within the wedding industry. These collaborations have proven invaluable in providing comprehensive support and resources to LGBTQ+ couples planning their special day. By actively networking, collaborating on projects and recommending other inclusive businesses, Ella Bella has helped to create a supportive and welcoming environment for anyone planning a wedding.
Impact on the Industry
The network of inclusive allies that Team Ella Bella is actively impacting the wedding industry. By challenging traditional norms and creating a more welcoming environment, this network is paving the way for a more inclusive and equitable future.
Not only does it provide LGBTQ+ couples with access to specialised vendors and unique resources but it also enhances the visibility and credibility of inclusive businesses within the industry.
When asked what she thinks sets her apart as an LGBTQ+ inclusive supplier in the wedding industry? Jodie replied:
“I believe by living it and talking about it, by learning from each other all the time, being honest and open helps. I also believe in standing by what we believe in, and saying yes to opportunities and people that align with our morals and values. They’re the main things that set us apart from others and helps us match us with the couples and lovers we are supposed to be working with.”
Advice for Other Suppliers
Ella Bella recommends that other wedding suppliers looking to become more LGBTQ+ inclusive should:
Continuously learn and educate themselves about LGBTQ+ issues
Follow LGBTQ+ influencers and advocates to gain insights and inspiration
Have open conversations with peers and colleagues about inclusivity
Be willing to learn from mistakes and grow as a business
