The Journey to Providing Inclusive Events

Inspired by personal experiences and a deep-rooted belief in equality, Ella Bella's founder, Jodie, has made it her mission to create a wedding industry that is welcoming and inclusive of all. By consciously choosing LGBTQ+-run and inclusive suppliers and ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all clients, Ella Bella has become a trusted ally for community members looking to marry.

Jodie herself is a bisexual woman in a hetero marriage so she understands the need for representation in the wedding industry and beyond.

Ella Bella Wedding and Event’s LGBTQ+ Wedding Initiatives and Policies

The Ella Bella team has implemented several initiatives to support LGBTQ+ clients in feeling safe and valued:

  • Exclusive Use of LGBTQ+ Suppliers: The business only works with suppliers who are LGBTQ+ owned or allies, ensuring that clients feel comfortable and supported throughout the planning process.

  • Inclusive Language and Imagery: Ella Bella uses inclusive language in all marketing materials and incorporates diverse subjects in their imagery to promote representation.

  • Continuous Learning and Advocacy: The business stays informed about LGBTQ+ issues and actively participates in advocacy efforts to promote inclusivity in the wedding industry.

The other person is blonde with their hair tied back and is wearing a white wedding dre4ss. They both have an ecstatic smile and sense of joy about them.

Challenges and Overcoming Obstacles

Being an LGBTQ+ business can be risky. Thankfully, Jodie and the Ella Bella team have faced minimal challenges in promoting inclusivity. Regrettably, one thing they have faced is negative social media comments when their content gets sent to the wrong algorithm. They haven’t let that stop them though, the team moderates harmful content and doubles-down on their mission to send out messages of love and support.

Jodie’s Most Memorable LGBTQ+ Wedding Experience

One of Jodie's most memorable experiences was working with a couple who were terrified to approach wedding suppliers due to their fear of judgment. The couple felt immense relief and gratitude when they discovered Ella Bella and learned about the company’s commitment to inclusivity.

Jodie and the team have fostered a strong network of inclusive suppliers and businesses within the wedding industry. These collaborations have proven invaluable in providing comprehensive support and resources to LGBTQ+ couples planning their special day. By actively networking, collaborating on projects and recommending other inclusive businesses, Ella Bella has helped to create a supportive and welcoming environment for anyone planning a wedding.

Impact on the Industry

The network of inclusive allies that Team Ella Bella is actively impacting the wedding industry. By challenging traditional norms and creating a more welcoming environment, this network is paving the way for a more inclusive and equitable future.

Not only does it provide LGBTQ+ couples with access to specialised vendors and unique resources but it also enhances the visibility and credibility of inclusive businesses within the industry.

When asked what she thinks sets her apart as an LGBTQ+ inclusive supplier in the wedding industry? Jodie replied:

“I believe by living it and talking about it, by learning from each other all the time, being honest and open helps. I also believe in standing by what we believe in, and saying yes to opportunities and people that align with our morals and values. They’re the main things that set us apart from others and helps us match us with the couples and lovers we are supposed to be working with.”

Advice for Other Suppliers

Ella Bella recommends that other wedding suppliers looking to become more LGBTQ+ inclusive should:

  • Continuously learn and educate themselves about LGBTQ+ issues

  • Follow LGBTQ+ influencers and advocates to gain insights and inspiration

  • Have open conversations with peers and colleagues about inclusivity

  • Be willing to learn from mistakes and grow as a business

Advice for Lovers Planning a Wedding

Jodie advises: “Get your priorities booked first, then worry about the ‘nice to haves’. It really is all about you so please don’t forget that – it’s your day do it your way, this wedding is for you no one else.”

A whimsical outdoor setup featuring a vintage white chaise lounge with ornate detailing. The lounge is adorned with colorful cushions in soft pastels, including a round pink pillow, a star-shaped silver pillow, and a yellow cushion, along with a fluffy pastel pink and blue blanket draped over one side. Behind the lounge, there is a decorative backdrop made of tall vertical panels in gradient colors ranging from pink, orange, yellow, green, to blue. The scene is set in a garden with lush greenery, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere for a relaxed or styled photoshoot.

Vibe check!

We asked Jodie a few questions to get a feel of her personality and a bit of a vibe check!

How do you like to unwind after a busy day of providing your service?

“I like to be in my PJs on the sofa with my feet up, watching films with my children. Or on the flip side, I also love book to a track day on my motorbike - it’s my therapy.”

Describe your dream wedding (real or imaginary) in three words.

“Colourful, outdoors, personal.”

If you weren't in the wedding industry, what do you think you'd be doing instead?

“I really don’t know! But what I do know is, it would have to be creative and helping people in some way!”

Finally, share a fun fact about yourself or your business that most people wouldn't know.

I have been learning to play the drums for the last year and love it!
